Introduction and background
Can you introduce yourself in a few words?
My name is Julien Reuter-Dona, and I am 22 years old. I am currently a student in the Master in Wealth Management program at Paris School of Business and a work-study Wealth Management Advisor at LCL Private Banking.
Why did you choose the Master in Wealth Management at Paris School of Business?
I chose this Master’s program because of my first experience in the Bachelor’s in Banking and Finance. I really enjoyed the courses, which provided an introduction to wealth management. Naturally, I pursued this Master’s degree, which builds on my Bachelor’s and stands out due to the expertise shared by guest lecturers specializing in various fields, such as legal, tax, and financial aspects.
What motivated you to join LCL for your work-study program?
I was familiar with LCL’s high-quality training programs in the banking sector. I also had the opportunity to meet several people working at LCL through events organized by Paris School of Business. These interactions allowed me to discover the bank’s expertise and work environment.
What motivated me to join LCL Private Banking was the opportunity to develop skills in wealth management, customer relations, and financial advisory while working with a broad range of financial products. Moreover, the guidance from experts, such as Private Banking Advisors (CBP) and Wealth Management Advisors (CEP), is a real asset in enhancing my skills in this demanding and ever-evolving sector.
Experience in the Master in Wealth Management program
Can you introduce the Master in Wealth Management? What specific skills have you developed through this specialization?
I chose this Master’s program for its academic excellence and its ability to integrate commercial, managerial, and wealth management aspects into its curriculum. In my opinion, having the option to study through a work-study program is a major advantage, as it allows us to combine theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience. This dual approach fosters skill development for a successful transition into the professional world.
Paris School of Business offers unique opportunities, such as its partnership with LCL, which simplifies the search for a work-study position and provides great career prospects.
This two-year program is recognized by the French State with a Master’s degree certification. Over these two years, we gain expertise in management and communication while studying key subjects such as economics and finance. We also develop solid legal and tax knowledge and explore the wealth management industry through topics like life insurance, taxation, and real estate and financial markets.
Thanks to the program’s emphasis on technical skills, I have also been able to develop essential soft skills, such as active listening and teamwork, which are crucial for successful integration into the professional world.
How have the courses in the Master’s program helped you in your role at LCL?
The courses have given me a better understanding of financing techniques and tax-related issues, which are essential for mastering the legal and fiscal aspects of wealth management. They have also helped me quickly grasp the explanations provided by my mentor during wealth management meetings, accelerating my skill development.
Experience at LCL
Can you tell us about your main responsibilities at LCL?
As a work-study student at LCL Private Banking, my responsibilities have evolved over time. Initially, I took on the role of Assistant Private Banking Advisor (CABP), handling clients’ daily banking needs, getting familiar with the internal software, and developing my commercial skills.
Once I mastered these basics, I moved on to a more in-depth immersion alongside Wealth Management Advisors (CEP) and Private Banking Advisors (CBP) during client meetings. My role involves preparing for these meetings by analyzing clients’ assets and liabilities to identify potential investment opportunities tailored to their needs. Before each meeting, we review the case with the private banker to ensure key points have been identified in advance.
Ultimately, this preparation and hands-on experience help us gain confidence and autonomy, enabling us to become fully operational private bankers.
What are the benefits of working in wealth management at a large company like LCL?
Working in a large company with nearly 17,500 employees is an incredibly enriching experience. First, there are numerous synergies, particularly with the European Investment Bank (EIB), which fosters stimulating exchanges and enhances our expertise.
Additionally, the collaboration between LCL’s retail banking network and private banking division allows for valuable exchanges, benefiting both the teams and clients by offering tailored solutions.
The support of tax lawyers and private wealth experts during client meetings also adds significant value, providing a comprehensive and personalized approach while strengthening our own skills.
LCL also has a real estate subsidiary, Angle Neuf, which enables us to offer tailored real estate investment strategies. This aspect adds a strong competitive advantage to our profession.
How has this professional experience helped shape your career plans?
This experience aligns perfectly with my career goal of becoming a private banker. It has been incredibly enriching, allowing me to develop my skills quickly through hands-on experience with a wide range of wealth management products offered by LCL.
